Studio By and Large is the studio of Dominic Studer, a creative director, strategist and developer who has spent over a decade working closely with founders to build considered brands and digital experiences.

Spanning strategy, identity, and execution, Dominic works in close collaboration with clients from start to finish of a project using judgment, taste, and cultural intuition as core guiding principles.

Approach

The studio’s approach has been honed over years of working with clients. Preferring to work closely with founders to go deep into the whys of what they do. Dominic enjoys working with people who are purpose driven and strive to have a positive impact on the world. Challenging ideas – in a safe environment – to get the best out of them and to create effective, beautiful, and culturally resonant work.

Each project moves through four key stages:

Strategy

Through a process of workshops, research and conversation, we help clients to find their true visions and purpose. This can also be a pressure test to asses whether an idea has the potential to endure, and ensuring that it can.

Workshops are often where the most valuable insights emerge, creating space for alignment and unexpected directions in equal measure.

The outcome is a clear, usable foundation. Something that can guide the brand over time, not just at launch.

Direction

Building on the strategy to give the brand a visual direction.

We explore widely before refining — drawing from history, culture, and the world the brand is entering. The aim is to find something that doesn't just look right, but feels inevitable, positioned clearly, and connected to something bigger than the brief.

Design

Design is where direction becomes tangible.

We develop and test the core elements of the brand, applying them across real contexts to understand how they behave. This is an iterative process, pushing, refining, and resolving.

The goal is to reach a point where the work feels both new and familiar, distinct, but intuitive.

Implementation

A brand is only as strong as its ability to be used.

Implementation focuses on creating the tools needed to carry the work forward, from high-performing websites to practical brand systems.

This might mean building on platforms like Next.js or Shopify, depending on the project. It also means equipping clients with the tools to use and evolve the brand themselves, whether through guidelines, templates, or content systems.

The aim is long-term clarity and adaptability. Something that can grow, change, and remain coherent over time.
